Situated in Islington, London, this project refurbishes an existing artists studio and creates a new family home for a textile print designer and artist. The existing building will be revitalised, allowing for the textile print design business to continue to occupy the site, while in the adjacent yard a 3 bedroom single-storey house will become home to the artist and her family.
Each of the multi-pitched roofs of the three volumes of Lantern House has a large rooflight at its apex. These peaked roofs allow for the creation of generous internal spaces, while minimising the buildings prominence within the site.
We are currently developing bespoke cladding designs with the artist client, to include elements of her own nature-inspired prints along the building façade.
Internally, exposed rafters rise up to the apex of each volume, embracing the structural complexity and sculptural qualities of the roof
