When Jake set up Edgley Design back in 2004 the first project of the practice was Jake's own house- Secret House in Islington, a self build project on a small backland site in Islington.

This self initiated project allowed us to experiment with design concepts and detailing- a process of learning through making- that informed the projects that came afterwards. The practice has continued this strategy of self-initiated development projects running alongside architectural services, and these small development schemes have allowed the practice to develop ideas and techniques at our own risk before these are implemented on client's projects! The practice now brings over 15 years of experience in design and construction management to our projects, and this experience also gives us insight into the most efficient and cost effective approach in any given scenario.

This dual approach to architecture and development also gives us an insight into the building process from a client's point of view, and wide experience in the issues beyond design of land acquisition, funding, budgeting and project management. For private clients, we have the experience to manage and deliver a unique building in a cost effective way, and for commercial clients, we have the development skills to help guide and unlock the viability of a project.

We believe good architecture is the result of a close collaboration between client, architect, and expert consultants and makers. This begins with working closely to understand your needs at the start of a project, and continues through keeping you informed at every stage of the project, and using our wide network of collaborators, contractors and expert consultants to achieve the best result.

Our work has been widely published nationally and internationally and has won many awards, including RIBA London awards in 2015 and 2016. In 2015 we were shortlisted for the Stephen Lawrence Prize and were runner up for the RIBA London Emerging Architect of the Year Award.
