King's Cross Gasholders

This concept for the reuse of a dormant gasholder is for an adventure playground sitting within the enclosure of the Victorian structure.

This playground consists of an articulated surface that forms a landscape of play, and a landscaped terrain around the gasholder that is built up to create a continuous surface up and over the playground.

During the day the structure can be transformed by raising the playground into the air which allows entry into an open air atrium and a resource centre. With the playsurface lowered, the entrance is sealed and the structure becomes a low maintenance public landscape.
