Musical Wall

Full size installation to a quarry in Portland, Dorset.

As the intrepid explorer climbs over the surface of the wall, the movement of a body over structure is converted to sound through a system of mechanical hammers. These tap out the ancient quarryman's music on the rockface, an invocation of the historical process of quarrying stone by hand at this site, the birthplace of London.

The musical wall forms part of a new landscape connecting the derelict quarry to the bordering village to create a ruined garden for the islanders.
